The Internet Systems Engineer under minimal supervision provides strategic thinking, design, communication and analysis of system interactions for all Information Systems' applications. The strategic thinking focuses on solving business needs in a strategic fashion. The Systems Engineer makes many high level and low level design choices, including but not limited to providing standards, tools, and methodologies. Communications is a key aspect to this role and the overall architectural vision must be communicated in a clear way. The Systems Engineer will deal with boundaries, interfaces and interactions between all systems.
The Systems Engineer is also responsible for applications, database servers and associated data. The Systems Engineer will work closely with database developers and other development teams on projects related to ERP systems, the web site, and Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity.
Systems and Databases included are Universe, MQ, Web Services, J2EE, SQL, DB2, Oracle, UV, Unix, Linux, Windows and others.
Accountabilities:
Architect new systems and re-design existing systems to ensure simplicity, reliability, availability and serviceability, implement upgrades and technologies
Monitor and report on key information to ensure performance and availability and provide capacity planning
Document procedures and other reference material
Coordinate with numerous departments to facilitate projects, integrations, support, input and oversight
Communicate standards, methodologies, and concepts
Automate tasks to remove manual processes and improve efficiencies
Provide regular analysis and written recommendations on system improvements
Configure, maintain and support applications
Lead and mentor team members and others in areas of expertise
Provide roadmaps for future improvements of all systems based on vision and understanding of business needs
Education and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
Five years of experience in Systems Engineering
Technical Skills:
Strong skills with Microsoft Environment web app and web services - required
Experience with Windows operating systems - required
Experience in analyzing, understanding, designing and implementing new products, services, and utilities in the web environment - required.
Experience with Unix or Linux operating systems - preferred
Skills with Microsoft Environment C#/ Visual Studio - preferred
Experience integrating software systems
Must have an excellent understanding of RDBMS and database theories.
Ability to read and interpret documents and write reports.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Aptitude to solve technical and practical problems and make recommendations to technical test members.
Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
PC experience in a Microsoft Windows environment; proficient with internet, email, MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and other software.
Possess good interpersonal skills.
Possess strong organizational skills.
Demonstrates a positive attitude toward self and others.
Appropriate grooming, attire and professionalism to interface directly with business contacts and represent the company.
Available to work early, late and weekends when needed to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
